Supercharging Gut-Brain Power with Ozone Therapy

Blueprint for Turning 40 at India's "Health Capital"

Dear Friends,

With just 100 days left before turning 40, I’ve committed to preemptive wellness, inspired by Bryan Johnson’s Blueprint. My genetic predispositions—non-alcoholic cirrhosis and cardiac arrest—has heightened my focus on long-term health. Detoxification, both physical and mental, is essential to this journey.

At NineO2 Wellness Centre in Chennai (India’s Health Capital), I’m undergoing ozone therapy every other day, including 24-minute ozone baths at 40 degrees. Ozone (O3), a supercharged form of oxygen, detoxifies and rejuvenates the body. Since starting, I’ve noticed clearer focus, improved energy, and a general sense of vitality—whether it's placebo or not, I’ll take it!

Ozone Sauna therapy; this is not me though

The gut-brain connection has been a revelation. Over 90% of serotonin (the happiness hormone) and more than 50% of dopamine (the motivation hormone) are produced in the gut. By detoxing my gut, I’m improving not just physical health but also mental clarity and emotional stability.

Dr. Ashmita Boopathy Moturi, the principal of the centre, explained to me how fatty liver impacts over 500 bodily functions and how detox can reverse this damage. This aligns with my own experience, where emotional detox—releasing stress and anxiety—has been as vital as the physical process. Stress, negativity, and toxic thoughts wreak havoc on gut health, leading to issues like IBS, weight gain, and fatigue.

Midway through the treatment, I can already feel a noticeable improvement—my body feels tighter and fitter. As an aside, in ages that end in 9 (9-99 etc.) often inspire deep reflection, as they mark the close of one decade and the beginning of another, so it seems a convergence of sorts as I see off my thirties?

Funnily enough, I wrote a pretty scathing piece about Bryan Johnson’s Blueprint exactly a year ago, questioning its hype and methods. But now, as I’ve committed to his idea of “preemptive care," I find myself lauding the very program I once critiqued. It’s a testament to how perspectives shift as one grows older.

Before & After $2mn: Bryan Johnson

As I approach 40, it’s not just about hitting a milestone—it’s about optimizing for the future. I still don’t agree with Bryan on amortality since death, when the right time is right, is a messenger of joy. In truth, my sights are set on hitting 95, but still, as the Yiddish saying goes, "Mann Tracht, Un Gott Lacht"—man plans, and God laughs. In the meantime, good health will be an evolving journey, and I’m committed to walking that path with clarity and balance. I hope this piece has a tiny way in helping you on your individual good life & health journey.

Best,

Zac X.

P.S.: An earlier version of this piece was crafted on my popular Brown Pundits blog; “The Gut-Brain Detox: Preparing for 40 with Ozone Therapy in Chennai.” It goes into much more detail on Dr. Ashmita’s many powerful insights, which alas I didn’t include here for the purposes of brevity
